How Refined Was Born
Pictured elegantly above is legend Matt Boyd, the creator of Refined. He’s the vast majority behind artwork, character design, stories, animation, voices and production that you see on the show.
Big thanks to everyone that has given a hand to help support Refined. Getting something meaningful up off the ground for people of our industry isn’t easy. If we’re not working a turnaround, we’re working on new content for you!
Discussing the beginnings of Refined with Matt, he told me; “I’ve always been a fan of cartoons. After doing boilermaker work for several years, the idea came to me and I couldn’t help myself. I researched and learned some animation basics, drew up characters and wrote a story loosely based on people and situations that I have encountered on the job.”
“Boldly Going Where No Hand Has Gone Before”
Drawing, writing, animating, and making music is what Matt enjoys. All of these things are a part of what goes into his cartoon creation. Refined Episode #1 was Matt’s first project ever animated.
Video cameras aren’t allowed inside the gates of refineries, so making a cartoon to give people a small idea of what we all go through made sense. “Being able to put out a cartoon that can make fellow construction workers’ days a little bit more enjoyable is enough reason to keep the episodes coming.” says Matt Boyd.

The Future Hands
Finishing up Episode 20, Boyd Animation has no plans to stop any time soon. From time to time they preform as a full band, playing the music from Refined. When it comes to the music, Brandon Boyd, Alex Buckner, and Dylan Smith join Matt Boyd together as The Coon Dogs. They’re currently working on a full length Coon Dogs album that will be finished and released April, 2019 so make sure you keep a lookout for upcoming show dates at boydanimation.com
